My Career is starting well...

Hi,
One of your 8 facts in "Video: The Tapir?Strange, Ancient, and Endangered" is erroneous. It says that tapirs are the only animals with 14 toes. In the caviomorpha suborder, the caviidae and capromyidae families both contain animals with 4 front toes and 3 back ones, which sums up to 14 toes.

Dear Ms. Bovy,
Thank you very much for your recent inquiry into a video clip on our web site. You had pointed out that the Barid Tapir is not the only animal with fourteen toes. We did look into this clip and appreciate you brining it to our attention. You are absolutely correct, and we are taking the appropriate measures to correct it. These clips were originally taken from an earlier produced National Geographic Television show, and, when recut and re-narrated, their was a misinterpretation of the original script. Each of our shows goes through a rigorous fact-checking and research process, but unfortunately this mistake was not caught. Thank you again for watching, and we appreciate you bringing this to our attention so that we may correct it. Sincerely,
Laura Fravel
Sr. Researcher
National Geographic Channel

happy! ... ish

What can I say? maybe there is some hope in the world. There has been a discovery of a completelty human free sanctuary in Papau New Guinea, in the beautiful tropical forest.
According to bbc.co.uk:
Summary of the team's main discoveries:
- A new species of honeyeater, the first new bird species discovered on the island of New Guinea since 1939
- The formerly unknown breeding grounds of a "lost" bird of paradise - the six-wired bird of paradise (Parotia berlepschi)
- First photographs of the golden-fronted bowerbird displaying at its bower.
- A new large mammal for Indonesia, the golden-mantled tree kangaroo (Dendrolagus pulcherrimus)
- More than 20 new species of frogs, including a tiny microhylid frog less than 14mm long
- A series of previously undescribed plant species, including five new species of palms
- A remarkable white-flowered rhododendron with flower about 15cm across
- Four new butterfly species.

Now this makes me ahappy and worried: like so many other animals before them, they have no idea what a human is, and do not worry about their presence. I mean, one bird tried to court a female scientist, and the long beaked echidneas were picked up like babies and brought back to the camp.
They're unafraid... like the dodobird, the Steller Sea Cow, or Stellers comorant (who was clubbed to death while sitting on its nest).
It's a lovely story... but can it stay that way?

what a strange day

when i started this post, i was to be about the weirdness of friday the something of february, where there was a new titanic.
Instead its about how pathetic my attempt to be daring was. not only did i put myself on the front of the line, tho i pretty well knew that it was useless, but i then got a dbl burn when the person asked me for somebody elses number. oh so lame i cant figur out if im numb from the stingin pain or just find it absurd.

alalallalla.
its tough bein a future spinster.

OH JOOOOOOOOY

ok, well this has prob been one of the best end of january, beginning of february ever!
End of january: Sopie is goin to Warwick! GO SOPIE!
I built up the courage to ask my wonderfully cute and charming TA to write me a rec letter, and he seemed impressed by my possible internship (i was blushin the whole way through)
I built up the courage (again... I'm becomin a little lion, grawl) to ask wonderfully cute frenchie to become my friend by inviting him to la chandeleur (issue is that for the moment only girls have rsvp'ed... boys, come on!)
I am making money w/ babysitting and tutoring!
Midterms went well! (i hope lol)
February: I was told taht I had v. good writing skills :). oh yeahhhhhhhh!

Now if people could share my enthusiasm and be less of poopy jerks, then life would be great!

and Cookie's an idiot. she spilt her food bowl this morning and looked very content wading in her veggies.
